Boston Qualifier

Running Accomplishments:

I am fairly new to running...not yet confident enough with my times to post them :) My first race EVER was a marathon October of 2009. It gave me a great respect for the distance!

Short-Term Running Goals:

I gotta lose about 20 lbs before I can even focus on any running goals. While losing the weight I will continue to run races for fun with my husband. Once the extra weight is gone I hope to get my weekly mileage back up and work towards qualifying for Boston!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to keep motivated and push myself to go further and faster. Perhaps one day I can do an ultra!

Personal:

I was born and raised in MA, so qualifying for the Boston Marathon is important to me. This was my fifth year walking that route for the annual Jimmy Fund Cancer Walk. So having walked it 5 times I thought...why not just run that distance as my first race! BIG mistake...my first official race I "ran" was horrifying! I have a husband 7 yrs older that can run circles around me when it comes to speed, but I think I have him beat when it comes to endurance:) I have two daughters Molly-1997 and Frankie-2005...they know that as soon as Frankie is old enough I want our family of 4 to run a marathon together.

Ran 6 miles at the local track, it was about 40 degrees. Felt like I could've put in a couple more miles, ran out of time :(

Did 6 "junk miles" :( Weighed in this morning 8 lbs heavier than when I was 9 months pregnant with my first child! This is my heaviest I've ever been, really need to get my diet under control...

Welcome to the blog! I do not look at those as junk miles, you are still getting out there and running. Nice job :)

Thanks Dan! Was having one of those blah days...

I think if you stretch it to the 6 mile range it can't be junk anymore - just getting out for that long is great. Hope to see you in Boston in a couple years!

Gotta get a new Nike+... I find that it really helps :)

Nice - I have only been running just under 2 years. I started out just running and then I got a Nike+ as well. It was nice. Eventually I got away from using an ipod at all and now use a garmin, but the time with the Nike+ and me was well spent! Hope you enjoy it and it helps motivate you!

If I get a new one I wanna really work on my speed. I got a Garmin for when I'm on the trails & never did end up taking the time to figure it out. Maybe I'll have to take another look at it:)

Well did you get one for Christmas? :) I know you said you were going back to Boston - so this is your motivational post to brave the elements!

Got my second wind at mile 6...felt like I finished strong:) I found a mantra that works for me~ "Feet Fail Me Not"...not a big Eminem fan, but a couple of his songs do help keep me moving...

I'm a big M & M fan.

Not a fan, either, but he is on my iPod as a motivator!!! The guy can rhyme.

Welcome to the blog and best of luck to you with your goals. The weight loss one is so tricky and a constant battle for me! I LOVE food, the more calories the better!

So, when you walk the Boston course you do the ENTIRE thing? Wow, that is one heck of an impressive walk.

From clovergirlmeg on Sun, Dec 26, 2010 at 20:56:15 from 24.233.71.203

I've walked the Boston marathon 26.2 for five years now for Dana Faber Cancer Institute's annual fundraiser. About 7500 people show up to do it on the second sunday each september. I have only ran one marathon...my next one is in March (I'm nervous)!

From Burt on Sun, Dec 26, 2010 at 21:07:26 from 72.223.84.236

If you can walk it, you can run it. Right? Go Meg!

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 27, 2010 at 05:50:28 from 71.219.84.215

I agree, running it might even be easier! You will do great, NO WORRYING!
